Discreet Consumption

A slice of cake is an incredibly commonplace snack, and thanks to the spices often used in banana bread, it’s an easy way to enjoy your cannabis treat without raising too many questions.

One of the Easiest Edibles to Make

Banana bread, and most loaf cakes, are famously known as low-effort baked goods, usually whipped up last minute with the ingredients found in any pantry. As long as you have some cannabutter (or a vegan alternative) available, you can have a delicious edible ready in less than two hours!

Versatile by Nature

Loaf cakes are a great option for breakfast, a midday snack, and even dessert when served with delicious ice cream. Also, infusing your banana bread with different cannabinoids (such as THC or CBD) means you can adapt your edible experience to all types of sessions.

Cannabis-Infused Banana Bread: Simple Recipe

Before we dive into the recipe, it's important to note that the potency of your cannabis-infused banana bread will depend on the strength of your cannabutter. If you're unsure about the potency of your cannabutter, it's best to start with a small amount and gradually increase the dose in subsequent batches. If this is your first time making cannabutter, we have some specific blogs to help you get started.

  • 180g plain flour
  • 10g baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 75g softened unsalted butter
  • 70g softened cannabutter
  • 110g caster sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 very ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 100g dark chocolate chips (optional)
  • 100g chopped walnuts (optional)

  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Medium loaf pan (23cm × 13cm)
  • Parchment paper

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C. Grease the loaf pan with 5g of unsalted butter and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter and cannabutter with the sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated. Chopped nuts and/or chocolate chips should be folded in at this stage. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean. Cover the top with foil if it starts to brown too quickly.
  8. Allow the cannabis-infused banana bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then use the parchment paper overhang to lift it out and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Vegan Cannabis-Infused Banana Bread

Banana bread is an incredibly versatile cake, and surprisingly easy to make vegan. We suggest using canna-oil as the main ingredient, whether it’s infused coconut oil or olive oil.

  • 310g plain flour
  • 10g baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 very ripe medium bananas (around 300g)
  • 70g canna-oil or cannabis-infused coconut oil (melted)
  • 125ml unsweetened soy or oat milk
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 130g dark chocolate chips (optional)
  • 130g chopped nuts (optional)

  1. The process of making vegan banana bread is almost identical to the regular one. First, preheat the oven to 175°C, and grease the loaf pan before lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Mash the bananas in a bowl and add the wet ingredients (vanilla, canna-oil, plant-based milk, and sugar) before whisking together until well combined.
  3. Slowly mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon) until just incorporated. Carefully fold in the add-ins (such as chocolate or nuts), without overmixing.
  4. Bake for 50 minutes. Remove the loaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack to cool down completely.

Tips for Making Cannabis-Infused Banana Bread

  • Use ripe bananas: The riper the bananas, the more natural sweetness they'll provide, reducing the need for additional sugar.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in a tough, dense texture. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Adjust the baking time: Oven temperatures can vary, so keep an eye on your bread and adjust the baking time accordingly.
  • Experiment with add-ins: Consider adding chopped walnuts, chocolate chips, or cinnamon to enhance the flavour and texture of your cannabis-infused banana bread.
  • Start with a small dose: If you're unsure about the potency of your cannabutter, start with a small amount and gradually increase the dose in subsequent batches.

A Sweet Treat With a Sweet High

Eating edibles is a different experience compared to smoking or vaping, and must be treated with caution. Remember that the effects of ingesting cannabis take a while longer (up to 90 minutes) before making an appearance, so it’s advised to always wait before reaching for a second dose.

DisclaimerWhen consumed, THC metabolizes into 11-hydroxy-THC, which enters the body through the stomach and liver, resulting in a significantly stronger effect due to its increased affinity for CB1 receptors in the brain.

Ensure accurate portion control. Begin with small doses and gradually increase to develop tolerance.
