You can add weed to virtually everything these days, incorporating it into all aspects of your life until you forget where the bud ends and you begin. If this is you, then in this article, we'll show you how to weedify one of the great bastions of stability and sobriety—bread.

The Art Of Baking Weed Bread

Bread is an ancient food that has been feeding humanity for millennia. In fact, it's easy to underestimate bread in the modern world, but in an ancient world where so many foods would have been perishable, storing flour and making it into bread at will would have been a literal lifesaver. So, bread is actually pretty cool.

But if it isn't exciting enough, you can also make cannabis bread! Cannabis bread is bread that, you guessed it, has been infused with cannabis—specifically THC. So, you could also think of it as THC bread. This bread is psychoactive and can get you high in exactly the same way as space cakes, hash cookies or any other cannabis-infused edible.

It's strange to imagine bread that gets you high. This fairly plain, everyday food doesn't exactly scream "high as a kite", but why not get baked on bread (pardon the pun)?

Making cannabis bread is mostly a fun activity for those who like to bake, but it can also be helpful for people who prefer to consume edibles—such as medicinal users, or those who would rather avoid inhaling smoke or vapour.

Using Cannabis Flour To Make Weed Bread

Most recipes for cannabis bread employ cannabutter or cannaoil, mixing either with dough. However, you can also use cannabis flour to make weed bread, in which case you simply need to use ¼ cannaflour and ¾ regular flour in your mix.

If you use a larger proportion of cannaflour, you can encounter problems with consistency, binding and strength. Cannaflour doesn't behave like normal flour, so if you use too much of it, your bread will struggle to stay together. And cannaflour can be pretty potent, so if you overdo it, your bread might pack too much punch!

How To Make Cannabis Sandwich Bread: Step-By-Step Recipe

If you're into baking and have made bread before, this recipe should be familiar. Regardless, it's worth noting that making good bread is an art in itself, so you shouldn't be surprised if your first loaf comes out seeming somewhat rustic—to use an ameliorative term.

Still, making a passable loaf of bread is well within everyone's capabilities. And besides, no matter how basic it may be, a warm, fresh loaf of bread will always be one of the most comforting foods. And if it gets you high, then all the better.

Note: This recipe uses cannabutter. Check out our dedicated blog on how to make cannabutter if you need more information.

Ingredients

  • 430ml of water
  • 10g caster sugar
  • 50g of non-fat dry milk
  • 600g bread flour or all-purpose flour
  • 10g salt
  • 15g cannabutter (You can easily adjust to enhance or weaken the psychoactive effect of the bread)
  • 10g active dry yeast
  • 5g ground cannabis (optional)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring jug
  • Scale
  • Cup
  • Loaf pan or baking tray
  • Baking parchment
  • Cling film

Instructions

  1. First, you will need to proof the yeast. Do this by mixing yeast with an equal amount of warm water in a cup. Then add a pinch of the sugar. After roughly ten minutes, you should see bubbles rise around the mixture's edges.
  2. Now, it's time to make another mixture. Grab a bowl and add the dry milk, sugar, flour, and ground weed. We should quickly point out that the ground weed is purely for artistic flair, and it's the cannabutter that contains the THC you're chasing.
  3. Mix these ingredients with your hands to achieve a pleasant, fluffy texture. Now that the dry ingredients have mixed, fill a space in the middle of the bowl with the yeast mixture and the remaining water.
  4. Continue using your hands to punch the mixture; it should gradually start to form a dough consistency after around fifteen minutes. The mixture should start to become a soft and smooth ball. If the mixture has become too wet and sticky, add some extra flour.
  5. If it has become too hard and dry, throw some extra water into the mix. Depending on your setup, taking it out of the bowl and kneading it on a clean surface might be easier.
  6. Once you have achieved the correct consistency, cover the top of the bowl with cling film. Over time, the dough should pretty much double in size, so make sure your bowl has enough space to contain this transformation.
  7. If you plan on making a loaf of weed bread, you can add the entire dough to a loaf pan, or you can break it apart and make several small rolls or buns and place them on a baking tray. In either case, line with baking parchment and let the loaf rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Now spread your cannabutter supply over the top of the loaf or separate rolls. Place them into a preheated oven and cook at 175ºC for about half an hour or until your bread turns golden brown.

Tips For Achieving The Right Texture

Getting bread dough to the correct texture and consistency is vital to making a good loaf of bread. To get the consistency right, you should:

  • Be patient: It can take a while for all ingredients to combine, so patiently knead until this is complete.
  • Fold: Rather than just pressing and squeezing your mixture, it's good to stretch it out, fold it over itself and then knead it. This ensures all patches are treated equally and brings air into the mix.
  • Ensure correct moisture content: No matter how perfectly you follow the instructions, you'll probably need to add more water and flour, maybe each multiple times. If the mix is getting too dry, don't be shy about adding more water. And if it's too wet, happily add more flour. However, it's best to add each incrementally until it's right; otherwise, you'll perpetually try to balance out your eagerness.

Weed Bread Variations

You needn't just make a regular loaf of bread topped with cannabutter. Instead, you can make all sorts of breads. Really, if you're just adding cannabutter to the top at the end, you can make anything you want.

Canna-sourdough

The rise of sourdough and the rise of (openly) popular cannabis consumption have a fairly strong correlation, going hand-in-hand with avocados, flat whites and faux-filament light bulbs! So why not make yourself some cannabis sourdough?

Sourdough is notoriously tricky to make and takes much longer than regular bread. The key differences are:

  • Must use a starter, which takes around ten days to make from scratch (can also be bought). This live culture helps sourdough rise and makes it airy, used in place of yeast.
  • Mix only using water, salt, flour and the starter.
  • Must leave it to autolyse (rest), meaning gluten is created, adding to the flavour.

Cheesy Garlic Bread

You could also use either of the above methods or simply add cheese and garlic for a very tasty snack. If you want to make indulgent edibles which are mostly about getting very high with friends, then making this all-time favourite snack is a reliable choice.

If you're feeling brave, you could up the amount of cannabis and just eat several slices until you get to a level you're happy with. Because of this, cheesy garlic bread is best suited to weekends when you've got a long time to indulge in being high.

Weed Bread: A Simple Delight

There are all sorts of cannabis recipes out there, but why not take things back to basics and imbue bread with the power of weed? These simple recipes blend a classic, comforting food with a classic and comforting high. What more could you want?

Web analytics service (anonymous data)

On this website we have integrated an element of a web analytics service (with anonymisation functionality). Web analytics can be defined as the gathering, processing and analysis of data about the behaviour of visitors to websites. An analytics service collects, among other things, data about which website a person came from (the so-called referrer), which sub-pages they visited or how often and for how long they visited a sub-page. Web analytics is mainly used for website optimisation and for a cost–benefit analysis of internet advertising.

Although no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, we follow all PCI-DSS requirements and implement additional industry standards that are commonly accepted. Information related to the account is protected with a hashing method. This method transforms the information into a generated hash. For example, access to the database is only possible and permitted via approved IP addresses (e.g. from Royal Queen Seeds headquarters). Other attempts and addresses are rejected at all times.

Furthermore, data is anonymised as much as possible, so it cannot be directly linked to a specific consumer. With this data, however, we may be able to carry out market research and analysis. In addition, the third parties concerned (e.g. mailing service) are examined prior to our collaboration, comply with the GDPR from the EU and receive a processing agreement. Within Royal Queen Seeds, employees are assigned different access permissions. Specific permission provides access only to information that is strictly required to perform a task. Digital security measures are subject to change and must meet high requirements to ensure the safety of online customers. That is why, at Royal Queen Seeds, we appoint a security officer. Regular verification and improvement of security measures (where necessary) are part of the role.
