You can correct overwatering and nutrient deficiencies, and even remove some pests by hand. But fungal pathogens present a much more serious problem. Mould remains invisible in the early stages. By the time it makes an appearance, your flowers are likely overrun with spores that you don’t want getting into your lungs. There are several ways to defend against such diseases when growing weed—including opting for disease-resistant genetics.

Several traditional strains have gained recognition for their ability to stave off plant pathogens. However, the advent of F1 hybrid cannabis genetics has given growers the most powerful weapon yet in the war against mould. These cannabis varieties are created by crossing two inbred parent lines. This intensive process creates uniform offspring that are better equipped to deal with an array of pests and diseases, including the dreaded Botrytis. On top of this, they also provide larger yields and more cannabinoids.

At Royal Queen Seeds, our breeders were the first in the world to develop these powerhouse genetics. Below, you’ll discover three F1 varieties that possess profound disease and mould resistance, alongside a couple of traditional strains that demonstrate respectable resistance themselves.

1. Hyperion F1 Hybrid Cannabis Seeds

The mighty Hyperion F1 gets her name from a Titan of Greek mythology. Much like these fabled beings, this F1 hybrid cannabis cultivar also puts up a heck of a fight. Equipped with hybrid vigour, this variety boasts impressive resistance to myriad sources of stress, including drought, cold bouts, pests, and virulent diseases.

Hyperion F1 Hybrid Cannabis Strain

Hyperion F1 genetics descend from Amnesia, Lemon, and Sin Tra Bajo inbred lines. After creating this cultivar, our breeders conducted several trials and found that she demonstrates impressive resistance to Botrytis—a systemic mould infection capable of wiping out entire cannabis harvests.

If you’ve ever lost a yield to fungal pathogens, or live in a humid climate where the risk remains high, Hyperion F1 will vastly increase your chances of success. Adding to this, this tall autoflowering variety produces large harvests and provides a high that relaxes the body while enlightening the mind. A rich terpene profile comprising myrcene, ocimene, farnesene, and other volatile compounds delivers enticing flavours of fruit and pepper.

Ironically, Apollo F1 possesses superior resistance to disease, which makes it an attractive choice for all manner of growers. Nothing makes the heart sink more than spotting mould on your buds at the end of a long and effortful growing cycle. As a true F1 hybrid, Apollo F1 makes this devastating sight very unlikely.

After crafting highly stable parent lines, our breeders crossed them to create one of the first true F1 hybrids, equipped with sky-high THC levels, delicious terpenes, and excellent uniformity.

After hitting a bowl or blunt packed with these buds, you’ll enjoy a deeply relaxing high, bouts of euphoria, and tastes of fruit and citrus.
