The RQS Carbon Filter 100 mm is our compact activated-carbon filter for small grow tents, scrubbing odour and volatile organics out of the exhaust stream before it leaves the tent. It is sized to pair with a 4-inch duct and the 300 m³/h inline fan for a clean, discreet 60x60 cm setup.
RQS Carbon Filter 100 mm: Odour Control for Small Grow Tents
Part of our new RQS cultivation range, the 100 mm carbon filter is the odour-management match for our 60x60x180 cm grow tent. With a 10 cm internal diameter, a length of 30 cm, and packed with activated carbon granules, it sits inline with a 4-inch duct to pull exhaust air through the carbon bed and strip terpenes, VOCs, and general grow-room smell before air reaches the room outside the tent. Paired with the RQS 300 m³/h inline fan, it keeps a compact grow discreet through late flower, when canopy smell peaks.
How Activated Carbon Scrubs Grow Tent Air
Activated carbon is carbon that has been treated to create a porous internal structure with an enormous surface area: a single gram of quality activated carbon exposes hundreds of square metres of pore wall. When air passes through the bed, odour molecules and volatile organic compounds bind to that surface through adsorption, rather than being filtered out mechanically the way dust is. The result is clean air on the exhaust side and a stable smell profile in the room the tent vents into. The mechanism works best when air spends enough time in contact with the carbon, which is why filter size and fan airflow need to be matched: push too much air through too small a bed and molecules pass through before they can bind.
Pairing with a 4-Inch Inline Fan
This filter is sized for a 4-inch (10.2 cm) duct and rated to work with airflow up to the 300 m³/h the compact RQS inline fan delivers. Mount it inside the tent at the upper back corner, connect the 4-inch aluminium duct from the filter outlet to the fan inlet, and run the fan in extraction mode so exhaust air pulls through the carbon bed on its way out. Running the filter on the intake side is also possible for positive-pressure setups, though the common layout is filter first, fan second, external duct last.
