Every cannabis lover has their favorite safe places to smoke weed. These are places where time slows down for a few hours; places you can enjoy in solitude, with someone special, or with a few close friends. It’s a place you call your own.

This article is all about the best places to smoke some bud, listen to some music, and watch life slowly pass by. If you’re reading this, you’ve likely sparked up in one of these spots already. And it must’ve been a glorious, memorable experience.

Don’t worry, these places are fun and (mostly) safe. Some of them do require some forethought and planning, but the small amount of effort required will pay dividends!

Best and Safest Places to Smoke Weed Outside

  • In the Woods

Every once in a while, it’s good to be truly one with nature—hiking through the woods, maybe doing a little camping—just enjoying the outdoors. Everything becomes more interesting once night falls and you feel an air of vulnerability and exhilaration at the same time.

But you can always elevate that experience with a little ganja! Roll up a joint, pass it around the campfire circle, and sing some songs while you’re at it. Or, let the sound of the wilderness serenade you as you enter a psychotropic space. It'll be a night you won't soon forget!

  • In the Park

The park is one of those venues where you can easily find solace. It’s a place where people come to enjoy a fine, sunny day with their family. It’s an open space where kids can run around and be their carefree selves.

It’s also a place where cannabis lovers enjoy having a good smoke session. And why not? You have people hanging out by your right, and a few kids throwing a Frisbee on your left. It’s good vibes all around. Indulging in a bit of that buzz is the icing on the cake.

Just make sure you’re not doing it with little children around. Otherwise, you’ll be causing a stink—literally and figuratively.

  • At the Beach

There’s always something calming about being at the beach. Forget about the sun’s heat for a minute. That combination of sand between your toes, the sound of waves crashing, and the sea breeze blowing can be therapeutic.

Then you go ahead and light up a joint. You take a slow drag, followed by a deep exhale, and you begin to feel a lightness in your head and body. Now, go back to that serenity in front of you and see the difference. Your life that’s been moving at a rapid pace has immensely slowed down, allowing you to savour each moment. What’s not to love about that?

  • The Rooftop of a Building

For many people, the rooftop of a building is a place of escape. It’s akin to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, where you’re left with your thoughts and the stunning view of the city around you. If you come up at the right time, you’ll be able to gaze at the sky as it turns bright orange with the setting sun.

But you know what can make that image even more perfect? A little hit of weed. For one, you won’t have to worry too much about getting caught, if that’s at all a concern. Plus, things can get a bit funky when you get high while you’re somewhere high up.

Now, if you have a fear of heights, this might not be a safe mental space for you. Otherwise, carry on, but be careful.

  • On a Bridge

When was the last time you stood on a bridge to smoke a little reefer while enjoying the tremendous view in front of you? Probably never. Because for most of us, a bridge isn’t that kind of a hangout spot.

But at least once in your life, this is something worth trying. Walk up to a nearby bridge, light up a joint, and just bask in the beautiful scenery right before your eyes. It could be a still body of water or an urban jungle down below. Whatever it is, this is an experience you get to hold on to for a long time.

  • On a Ferris Wheel

You’ve likely seen it in many romantic movies. Boy and girl go on a first date, and there’s a scene with the two of them on a Ferris wheel. In some plots, it’s where the first kiss happens.

But a Ferris wheel ride doesn’t necessarily have to be a lovey-dovey experience all the time. There are moments when you just want to be on top of the world… and then get a little higher with the help of your favorite strain.

Another great thing about this plan is that the chances of getting caught are slim. Just allow yourself to be elevated enough off the ground before you get elevated off that doobie.

Just like with the bridge experience, getting high while high up on a Ferris wheel is one of those things you ought to try at least once. It’s something to tell the grandkids about when they get older.

  • By the Pool

One of the more invigorating things in life is to soak up the sun, poolside. It’s definitely not for everyone. But if you enjoy it, it can be an utterly satisfying way to spend lazy summer afternoons.

Now, it’s customary to have a cold drink in hand to beat the heat. It could be a frosty mug of beer for some, or a tall glass of strawberry limeade for others. But do you know what will complete this experience? A nicely rolled joint.

Of course, you’ll need to adhere to the rules of your surroundings. If you’re lounging by a hotel pool, you likely won’t be allowed to light up. But if you’re in the comfort of your backgarden, go nuts. And should you decide to go for a dip later on, go ahead and enjoy that extra buzz while you're at it.

  • In a Car

There are three possible scenarios when we talk about the car as one of the best places to smoke weed. One would be a parked vehicle with a hotboxing session going on. If you’re the type who goes hard on their ganja smoking, you’ll likely get a kick out of this one. It’s an instant bonding moment to share with friends new and old.

Scenario number two is similar, but this time, you save your lungs a beating by rolling down the windows. What’s great about this move is that you can park your car next to picturesque scenery. That’s one way to enjoy the view.

Scenario number three would be during a long drive. One passenger will light up a spliff and generously pass it around the car. The driver, of course, isn’t advised to partake. But for the other fortunate passengers, they get to enjoy the world going by around them. Bonus points if you’re passing through a scenic destination.

  • At a Festival

Lighting up a joint and passing it around at a festival is one of the most Hollywood cliché things you can do. But that doesn’t diminish the fun and memorable night you could enjoy with friends.

What makes smoking at a festival such an enjoyable activity is the good energy in the air. People are already in high spirits, enjoying the same thing. And even if a mosh pit breaks out and things get rowdy, you can see that everyone around you is having a good time.

Another reason why weed and festivals go so well together is that genuine friendships are forged. There’s a good chance for you to bump into a fellow herb lover and share a joint. By the end of the night, you’ll be exchanging numbers, arranging for a Friday night smoke with everyone else.

  • At the Fireworks

Who doesn’t love an extravagant fireworks display? Whether you’re in the vicinity or you’re seeing it from afar from your apartment window, multicoloured lights illuminating the sky will make you stop and stare in awe. Even children are introduced to it at a young age during those trips to Disneyland.

Anyone who’s smoked weed knows how a psychotropic kick can enhance anything visual. Especially with the sensory overload that a fireworks display brings, it can be quite a trip to combine the two.

So the next time you decide to watch some fireworks, spark up a joint while you’re at it. Pass it around and share the experience with those around you. Then, collectively look at the night sky and marvel at what you’re seeing—a sight to behold.

How To Find a Great Smoking Spot

Now, you may have other places in mind that aren’t on the list above. Or, perhaps you’re wondering which type of location is best for your preferences and constraints. The question, then, is, how do you find a great smoking spot? How can you tell that you’ve found the right one? Here are a few steps to help you answer these questions for yourself!

Do Your Research

There’s a reason why doing your research is at the top of this list. By research, we mean scouting the area for potential signs of trouble. Is it a “no smoking” zone? Is cannabis even legal in the place where you are at the moment?

These are questions you should find the answers to before proceeding.

Look Out for Other People

Building on the above, part of the research you’ll perform is to see if there are other people around. Particularly, if other people have been there before you.

A good sign would be if there are traces of paper, ash, and even some weed. Since someone else already did what you’ve set out to do, you’re likely good to go.

Stay There Some Time

Let’s say you’ve found yourself a pretty isolated smoking spot. Not too many people are walking about. And as a huge plus, it’s got a beautiful view. The next move: make the place yours.

Familiarise yourself with the environment by spending some time there. See if it’s reachable to other people, especially young children or older folks.

Look for an Escape Route

Not all smoking spots are created equal. Some can put you in compromising situations should something go wrong.

If your smoking spot is in a place where cannabis use is frowned upon, you better find an exit path. This is where you’ll run to in case there’s a sudden presence of authorities.

Get High

Now it’s time to actually test the spot out! Light up a joint; solo or with a friend. Sit back, relax, laugh your heart out, and just enjoy life’s precious moments.

If you feel at home in this newfound place, you’re golden.

Return Back to Earth

After you’ve gotten high, now it’s time to descend back to Earth. And you better do it with a smile on your face. You’ll know you’ve found the perfect smoking spot if you can get high and return to normalcy with ease.

Consider Changing It Regularly

Once you’ve found your safe smoking space and have enjoyed numerous sessions there, consider switching things up regularly. Better yet, find yourself a second reliable spot to add variety to your life.

Ideally, you’ll want the spot to be exclusive to you and your close people. And if the old one doesn’t feel the same anymore, you have a backup to run to.

Smoking in Your Home: How To Optimise the Experience

Home is indeed where the heart is, and where it's most comfortable to smoke a little reefer. But while some areas of the house are suited for it, others aren’t. Let’s go through them one by one.

  • Patio or Terrace

This is probably the best place to smoke in your home. It’s outdoors, and likely breezy and quiet. And usually, a terrace is situated to give you a good view, so that adds a lot to the environment.

  • Sofa

This is a tricky one. Yes, it is a treat to be able to get a little blasted while lounging on the sofa. But a few acts of mindlessness can make it a fire hazard.

If you choose to smoke on your sofa, do it with caution.

  • Bath

Smoking while having a bath can be quite an experience. Imagine yourself lying beneath a layer of bubbles while your mind and body slowly ascend into the ether. This would be perfect after a long, tiring day at the office.

  • (Not) Your Room

Ideally, your bedroom is a place of comfort and should be conducive to rest. Smoking in there not only compromises the surrounding air, but it can also leave a not-so-inviting smell in the long run. Furthermore, it’s good to shake things up and move about your home.

  • Garage

Now, if you’re living with kids or older parents, you might not have the same freedom to smoke where you please. So, with that in mind, unless you’ve fixed up your garage to be a “fun” little spot by putting in a gym, it can be a viable discreet smoking spot. If you don’t mind being amidst rusty tools and boxes of stuff you only use once a year, why not?

  • Rooftop

The rooftop is the upstairs version of your garden or front patio. It’s an open space that allows you to be alone with your thoughts while enjoying your favorite strain. Depending on your access and immediate outdoor surroundings, you can climb to the roof to get some much-needed solace, away from prying eyes.

  • In a Closet (Hotboxing)

And in case you want to take things a step further, hotboxing is your next best option. We mentioned this in passing earlier, but it’s basically retaining all of the exhaled smoke in a small, contained space. Not only does it make your smoking session more discreet, but it can also be a lot of fun.

If we’re talking about hotboxing, the closet is one good option. If it’s a big enough space that’s devoid of clothes, you can make it work. While it may not be ideal, try to create a comfortable space that you can escape to should you need a quick toke. Lay down a blanket, set up a Bluetooth speaker; make it a sanctuary.

Remember To Cover Your Tracks After Smoking

Whether you’re returning from your outdoor smoking spot, leaving a car after hotboxing, or exiting your hazy room, you want to avoid having that smell linger around you. There are various ways to hide and mitigate the scent, depending on your scenario. Everything from proper storage to odour neutralisers can get you to where you need to be, so it pays to be informed!

As a first port of call, try to have a change of clothes ready after your session, and make sure to wash your hands and brush your teeth, as these are places where the smell of weed and its smoke tend to linger. Happy smoking!

DisclaimerIt’s no secret that humans have a huge impact on the planet. While smoking cannabis often draws us closer to nature, it can also cause us to accidentally (or intentionally) contribute to this mess.

At Royal Queen Seeds, we encourage you to leave no trace. Whether you’re camping in the woods, chilling on the beach, or enjoying time at your local park, always take your rubbish home with you.

Also, consider fire risks; never flick burning ash onto areas of dry vegetation.
