Cannabis Space Cake Recipe
Space cake is one of the most iconic cannabis recipes of all time. Passed down through generations, it has become a true symbol of cannabis culture, particularly in the Netherlands, where it blends classic European baking with the characteristic effects of the plant. This version focuses on a rich, chocolate-forward cake with a soft crumb and smooth finish, making it easy to portion and dose accurately.
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Ingredients (1 Cake, 8 Slices)
- 240 g soft butter
- 180 g sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 5 eggs (size M)
- 190 g flour (type 405 / all-purpose flour)
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 50 ml milk
- 100 g grated dark chocolate
- Butter for greasing the pan
- 200 g dark couverture chocolate
Equipment
- Springform pan (26 cm)
- Mixing bowl
- Hand mixer or whisk
- Spatula
- Saucepan and heatproof bowl (for bain-marie)
Directions
- Step 1: Grease a 26cm springform pan with butter and preheat the oven to 160°C (fan).
- Step 2: Beat the soft butter with the sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt until light and creamy. Gradually add the eggs, mixing well after each addition. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Stir the dry ingredients into the butter mixture alternately with the milk until a smooth batter forms.
- Step 3: Fold in the grated dark chocolate. Pour the batter into the prepared springform pan and smooth the surface. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
- Step 4: Roughly chop the dark couverture chocolate and melt it gently over a bain-marie. Pour the melted chocolate over the cooled cake and spread evenly.
Extra tip: Cut the cake into evenly sized slices to make it easier to calculate cannabinoid content per portion.
