The 2019 Cannabis Strain: Where Landrace Heritage Meets Hybrid Vigour
The result of four years of focused breeding, The 2019 pairs landrace heritage with modern hybrid vigour. Here’s how careful selection, honest classification, and layered flavour shape The 2019’s real-world appeal.

At Royal Queen Seeds, we’re proud to introduce a next-generation variety: The 2019, a cultivar that bridges the gap between classic feminised lines and true F1 hybrids.
Why “The 2019”?
The name comes from the internal selection code we used during development, the point at which this line clearly separated itself from the rest.
Over four years, we developed and refined The 2019 with a clear focus on genetic expression, stability, and overall plant performance. The result is a feminised cultivar that delivers a level of consistency, vigour, and performance that moves closer to F1 hybrid standards.
Say hello to The 2019.

A Four-Year Breeding Programme Focused on Performance
At Royal Queen Seeds, we work with F1 hybrid methodology alongside traditional cannabis breeding techniques. The 2019 is the result of an F1 hybrid development programme aimed at creating a new generation of high-THC photoperiod cultivars that express true hybrid vigour.
The genetic pool originates from Levantine and West Asian landrace genetics, selected for their resilience, quality, and overall performance. Over more than three years of successive trials and selections, we identified four particularly promising hybrid candidates that advanced into the final evaluation.
Among the candidates, R2-2019 (The 2019) quickly emerged as the clear standout. It outperformed the other lines in vigour, plant structure, and cannabinoid potential, reflecting the core traits we set out to capture in this programme.
In the final evaluation, R2-2019 delivered strong hybrid vigour across environments, with large plant structure, high THC potential, robust plant health, and 100% germination performance. These results placed it clearly above the typical range of a standard feminised seed line.

Genetic Development and Hybrid Vigour
A key part of the development process involved S3 and S4 selfing, a breeding method in which plants are self-pollinated over successive generations to create inbred lines and stabilise desirable traits. This allowed us to fix key characteristics before hybridisation.
When these inbred lines are crossed, the resulting F1 generation expresses strong hybrid vigour, with high levels of consistency and performance from plant to plant.
A Word on Classification and Transparency
We hold our F1 hybrid designation to a strict standard, particularly around plant-to-plant uniformity. After large-scale external trials in Q3 and Q4 2025 with Innexo and within the CfC consortium in the Netherlands, R2-2019 delivered excellent vigour, plant health, and productivity.
However, while the line showed strong and reliable performance, the level of homogeneity did not fully meet the high uniformity threshold we require for official F1 designation.
We could have lowered the bar. We didn't.
We release R2-2019 as an advanced feminised seed line, with full transparency about its genetic position. It performs well above the typical feminised category, reflecting the advanced breeding work behind it.
It sits in the space between classic stabilised lines and fully uniform F1 hybrids.
In practice, growers will still observe clear hybrid-driven traits: robust growth, large plant structure, high THC potential, and strong overall plant performance.

Genetic Foundation: Galileo x Arava Landrace
At the core of R2-2019 lies a combination of refined modern genetics and rare regional landrace diversity. The Arava landrace component originates from West Asian material with a long history of adaptation, resilience, and environmental stability, shaped over generations in challenging climates.
This foundation is combined with Galileo genetics, contributing structure and potency, while the landrace side brings aromatic complexity and raw vitality.
In R2-2019, this combination expresses itself in large, vigorous plants with a layered terpene profile led by chemical and fuel-forward notes, balanced by fruity, sweet-and-sour undertones.
What Growers Can Expect from The 2019
The breeding work behind The 2019 translates into a cultivar that is genuinely rewarding to grow, with predictable behaviour across setups and a sensory profile that holds your attention from veg through cure. Here is what to expect across cultivation, flavour, and effect.

Growing The 2019: Indoor and Outdoor Performance
With a 65% sativa and 35% indica balance, The 2019 develops with energetic growth, a solid frame, and enough control to suit different setups. Indoors, plants usually reach 80–120 cm and can produce 600–700 g/m² under good conditions, with a flowering time of 9–10 weeks (60–65 days). Outdoors, it has more room to stretch and can reach up to 180 cm, with yields in the region of 650–750 g per plant and a harvest window in late October. Across both environments, the strain stands out for dependable structure and strong, repeatable performance.
Flavour Profile: Citrus Sharpness Meets Fruity Complexity
The terpene profile is led by limonene, which gives The 2019 a bright citrus edge layered over a distinctive chemical, fuel-forward backbone. That sharp, almost solvent-like opening is rounded out by fruity, sweet-and-sour notes and a deeper herbal undercurrent, creating a flavour that feels complex and full-bodied without becoming harsh. Supporting terpenes such as β-caryophyllene, humulene, pinene, and myrcene add extra texture, bringing subtle spice, earthiness, and freshness into the mix.
Potency and Effects of The 2019
With THC levels around 25% and relatively low CBD, The 2019 sits firmly in the high-potency category. The experience is often described as uplifting, creative, and motivating at first, making it appealing for moments when a clear, active mindset is preferred. Alongside that mental energy, there is also a steady layer of physical relaxation that helps soften the edge without tipping into an overly heavy effect.

The 2019 Sits Between Tradition and Innovation
The 2019 stands out for the depth of breeding behind it, combining strong vigour, performance, and a complex, curated terpene profile. It emerged as a clear standout within a complex selection process, a reminder that even in structured breeding, nature still has a way of surprising you.
